Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation (Deemed To Be University)

Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (VMRF-DU) traces its origin to 1981 with the establishment of the ThirumurugaKirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal (TKVTSS) Medical Educational and Charitable Trust, followed by the founding of Vinayaka Mission’s College of Pharmacy at Salem in 1982 under the leadership of its visionary Founder-Chairman, Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram. In recognition of its sustained commitment to academic excellence and quality education, the institution was conferred the status of “Deemed to be University” in 2001 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, becoming the 48th university in the country. Today, VMRF comprises 13 colleges and 12 schools across campuses in Salem, Chengalpet, Puducherry, and Karaikal, offering a wide spectrum of programs in medicine, dentistry, engineering, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, law, arts and sciences, and allied health sciences. Accredited with an “A” grade by NAAC and ranked in the 151–200 band in the NIRF 2023 (University Category), VMRF continues to uphold its reputation as a premier center of higher learning.
With a robust infrastructure spanning more than 18 crore sq. ft., VMRF provides state-of-the-art facilities and resources that support both academic and research excellence. Its three medical colleges, collectively offering over 2000 hospital beds, along with NABL-accredited virology laboratories and satellite medical centers, play a pivotal role in delivering quality healthcare services to rural and underserved communities across 30+ villages. The university currently nurtures nearly 15,000 students, guided by over 5000 faculty and staff, and successfully graduates around 3000 professionals annually across diverse disciplines. Research and innovation remain at the core of VMRF’s mission, with 46 specialized research centers driving advancements in biotechnology, nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, food science, alternative energy, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. Further strengthening its standing, VMRF’s Homeopathy College and Hospital, as well as its medical colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal, have earned NABH accreditation. Hostel facilities can accommodate more then 1500 students both male and female. Separate hostel for boys and girls with all modern facilities. Hostels are located in serene atmosphere and with greenery surroundings at Ambattur Main Road easily accessible to the Metropolitan Transport Services. Facilities include study room, uninterrupted power supply and separate generator for students. Movies are screened in the Entertainment Theatres for students on Holidays. Separate Hostel Committee to look into the grievances of the students.
